3 to 5 Inches of Snow, Sleet Predicted Saturday

Freezing rain predicted Sunday night.

The Chathams may finally see the first accumulating snowfall of the season this weekend, but you might not want to get out your sleds just yet.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch, including hazardous weather conditions, for and for early Saturday. According to the NWS, there is an 80 percent chance of precipitation with snow falling mainly after 1 a.m. and accumulating 1 to 3 inches.

Snow is expected to continue until about 2 p.m., at which point the NWS predicts sleet and snow will begin to fall. The total accumulation predicted is between 3 and 5 inches.

The weather is expected to calm Saturday evening, but Sunday night, the NWS is predicting freezing rain and sleet before midnight and possibly continuing until 3 a.m.

Bob Venezia, head of the , said the department is ready for the snow. The salt dome is full, he said, and employee assignments and plow routes are posted. Venezia said it should be "a pretty straightforward storm with temperatures going back to the 50s by Monday."
