Spotlight on Corpus Christi CYO 7th Grade Girls Team
The Corpus Christi CYO 7th grade girls basketball team is having a fantastic year under first year head coach Larry McCann. Larry is a veteran to basketball and jumped at the opportunity to coach this year's 7th grade girls team. "Coaching basketball is important to me, as I can instill life lessons at a formative time – the art of practice, discipline and teamwork make basketball a model sport to coach" states McCann. And the girls are responding! The girls have won 2 out of the last 3 games and are playing very competitive basketball.
Assisting Coach McCann are three enthusiastic parents, Pat Sullivan, Joe Viscovich and Katie Kuyk, all playing a vital role in the team's recent success. "Corpus Christi allows parents to volunteer as coaches, which enables a stronger bond between parent and child, under the auspices of a great CYO program" says Coach Viscovich. Coach Kuyk sees the program from this perspective "basketball is integral to a player's athletic, academic and spiritual development". Coach Sullivan agrees, stating "I am fully supporting of girls playing CYO basketball and hope that the program continues to grow and we can have more than two girls teams at the each of the JV and Varsity levels"
The next home game for Coach McCann's team will be Sunday, January 9th, with tipoff at 3:00pm at Oratory Prep in Summit. Information regarding Corpus Christi's CYO program can be found at www.leaguelineup.com/corpuschristicyo.
