The New Jersey School Public Relations Association (NJSPRA) has elected Laura Bishop, managing principal of Laura Bishop Communications, LLC, president, for a two-year term. Bishop previously served as the organization’s treasurer.

Recognized for her dynamic leadership and hands-on approach, Bishop has extensive experience working with public school districts, private and charter schools, and professional organizations in the education field.

NJSPRA is the state chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA), a professional organization dedicated to building support and trust for education through responsible public relations that leads to success for all students.

NJSPRA members include school public relations professionals and administrators representing school districts statewide.

"Our association is a hidden gem, with members who have a wealth of experience in and knowledge of the public relations and education fields," said Bishop. "Our goal over the next two years is to increase the visibility of NJSPRA, while at the same time raising awareness of the integral role effective communications can and should have in supporting and improving public, private and parochial education statewide."

 Clients and colleagues hold Bishop in high regard as a gifted strategist, writer and editor. She is known for translating high-level strategic vision into high-impact communications for the firm's profit and not-for-profit clients.

Bishop launched Laura Bishop Communications in July 2011, after serving for nearly seven years as vice president of Thomas/Boyd Communications, where she led the firm’s education practice area in addition to managing a wide range of marketing communications programs.  She was a sole practitioner for 16 years prior to joining Thomas/Boyd.  Bishop's clients have included public and private corporations and non-profit organizations in the fields of education, environment, agriculture, specialty chemicals, law, banking, and utilities, among others.

Bishop earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a concentration in environmental studies from Cook College, Rutgers University.

Active in non-profit and professional organizations, Bishop serves on the board of trustees for the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, where she chairs the Nominating Committee, and is president of the Rancocas Conservancy, a land trust that has preserved nearly 2,000 acres in the Rancocas Creek Watershed in Burlington County, New Jersey. Additionally, she serves on the boards of the Gloucester County (NJ) Chamber of Commerce and Archway Foundation, the fundraising art of Archway Programs, which serves children and adults with special needs.

A resident of Winslow Township, Bishop is an avid Pilates practitioner and enjoys tennis and running.
