CHS Boys' and Girls' Fencing Teams are 2013 Morris County Champs

The Chatham High School Boys' and Girls' Fencing Teams, in their third season, took first place in the Morris County Tournament in Randolph on January 19, 2013. Considered the underdog but experienced beyond their 3-year status, the win was not expected. They were led to victory by supportive coaches Chris Palmer, Tira Kongsamut and Conor Mason.
The Chatham teams’ camaraderie and strong spirit filled the gym. Parents and friends filled the stands and were nervously optimistic with each point earned.
The Chatham boys' team finished first place overall with 40 victories, 18 of them earned by the first place sabre squad of JC Perrin, Quinten Burgunder, Jake Burns and Billy Maroney. The boys' epee and foil teams both took 5 th earning 22 victories for the first place win.
The Chatham girls' team finished first place overall, also with 40 victories, just one point ahead of rivals Randolph and Morris Knolls. The girls' strong sabre squad with Elaina Clougherty, Hannah Tognola, Olivia Fontes and Celine Devine, finished first place earning 18 of the total 40 victories. The girls epee team finished 3rd overall earning 14 victories and the foil team earning 8 victories for the first place win.
Chatham was well represented in the individuals bouts with JC Perrin, Quinten Burgunder, and Jake Burns finishing 1st, 2nd, and 4th in the boys pool, and Elaina Clougherty and Hannah Tognola finishing 1st and 3rd in the girls pool. Skyler Browning-Doorn, in an exciting fence off, finished 2nd in the individual epee pool. Hunter Stusnick finished 4th in the epee pool and Hans Moeller finished 5th in the individual foil pool.
The 2013 Tournament was an exciting day for the three- year-old Chatham High School Fencing Team, bringing home the title, 28 plaques, and 5 individual medals.
