Chatham receives awards for promoting Safe Routes To School

TransOptions of NJ hosted a Recognition Breakfast at the County College of Morris on Thursday July 19th, honoring our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michael LaSuza and our Safe Routes To School Committee Chair and Councilwoman Kathy Abbott. Transoptions is an organization which promotes alternate transportation options in NJ.

As an advocate for walking and bicycling, the Safe Routes to School Program in the Chathams, blossomed under Dr. Michael LaSuza's leadership.  He has enabled the growth of safety and awareness campaigns in Chatham Township and Chatham Borough.

The Safe Routes to School Committee, chaired by Kathy Abbott who is an active volunteer in the Chatham Township Community, recently elected Committeewoman and Vice Chair of the Township Environmental Commission championed the Safe Routes to School program by coordinating the efforts and communiciation for all of the schools in the School District of the Chathams.  She has mobiliized a team of residents and parents to raise awareness for pedestrian safety in the community and has worked extremely hard this past year to address the barriers, as well as opportunities for students traveling to and from school.
